In the name of God, most Gracious, most Compassionate

In the name of God, most Gracious, most Compassionate
Al-Quran (30:30)

So direct your face toward the religion, inclining to truth. [Adhere to] the fitrah of Allah upon which He has created [all] people. No change should there be in the creation of Allah. That is the correct religion, but most of the people do not know.

[Al-Imran 3:8] "[Who say], "Our Lord, let not our hearts deviate after You have guided us and grant us from Yourself mercy. Indeed, You are the Bestower."

The Science of Hatehood!

I don't have a lot of pet peeves or things that annoy me... Wait there is! but I don't allow them to annoy me. I sometimes feel its  shaytan making me want to despise an individual for no real reason. Sometimes I get the inclination to blog and rant about personal issues in my life. I mean I can but I am afraid that it will defeat the purpose as #1.I am Muslim #2 Working towards improving all aspects of my life and #3 Not the purpose of this blog. I am not trying to cause fitnah here or expose others or myself. I find it condescending to rant about how others are so bad and I am "not."

I think its almost innate for humans to be haters. I find myself just "hating" on anything just because ( I can) and again I think its shaytan. How is it that we can discern every flaw from an individual but not their good qualities?! If they have good qualities we hate on them trying to devalue them. "Oh she is not that pretty, its her makeup.. she is ALRIGHT... She's pretty but she has a bad attitude (as if we dont LOL)..."  I can go on forever just on the anatomy of hate-hood  FOR REALS! Maybe its just a women thing. I was thinking about it the other day how it must be a survival instinct to hate. If we hate we will want to destroy their livelihood thus improving ours or we will want to acquire that "quality" they have that is detrimental to our survival. [In Islam there are 2 types of Jealousy: Halal and Haram. For it to be considered halal one must wish that quality (islamic knowledge, piety, deeds..etc) while not desiring for the other to abandon it or wish ill towards them. It should also not be envy of haram such as riba based homes, zina, etc. Jealousy can lead to arrogance the kind that Iblis had towards Adam (allayhi salam)and can lead to transgression. refer to 2:3425:20

When we adjust our thinking its easy to dismiss the loud eating, the "oh she did not  close the door after her," "uggh she ignored me on purpose (give an excuse maybe she did not hear you or was busy)".. Again I can go on forever BELIEVE ME. When we learn to dismiss these things and really fixate our attention to more important things they will not be as annoying. It will save relationships (friends), marriages, and dodge fitnah. There are times in which if I wanted to I can LET IT BE KNOWN and break it down for some individuals but I wont... sometimes I do :( but I usually dont. I dont care! My life is already a project on its own dont need additional crap projects. In addition, we should think the best of our brothers and sisters (even non-muslims) and think best of their intention.

there are a few life lessons (key to happiness) that correlate with this subject. These are from sheikh Abdullah Al-Qarni.

4. If you fall victim to HATERS:
Do not be shaken by criticism; instead, be firm. Be sure that in proportion to your worth, the level of people's criticism rises. Also, make good use of criticism in discovering your shortcomings and faults, and let it drive you toward self-improvement. "Be humble! Let it marinate so that it can help you attain humility. "

8. How to gain Immunity from HATERS: Do not expect gratitude from anyone..."OR dont expect people to love you or admire you. See them for what they might be a hater. (this does not opt to be pessimistic-just a different frame of mind.) [76:9  We Feed you seeking Allah's countenance only. We wish for no reward nor thanks from you. ]"

So if you keep these in mind You will be OKAY :-)

p.s. I was actually inspired to write this because I was feeling annoyed and was going to write this post completely different than I anticipated. Alhamdulillah... for our minds and our fitrah.

p.s.#2 I hate studying! :-(  May Allah make it easy on me and to others with final examinations Ameen!

May Allah guide us and increase us in Faith! Ameen!

Soften your hearts: ... be a tadpole!

I was just thinking how vital it is as a Muslim that we should not let our hearts soften up with anything other than the Qur'an! The pleasure of Allah is not attained with anything greater than the love for the words of Allah. It's such a struggle to maintain our Iman consistent. It's a constant struggle for me that is for sure. I like to feel pumped up and enthusiastic and I reject the idea that its just phase reverts go through. So ridiculous! subhana'Allah. As if there was a threshold to Iman and Islamic knowledge. Not only is it ridiculous and ignorant but ARROGANT to think such!

Anyways, before I drift into an emotional rant,  I will stay on point, the purpose of this post. So noted from my last post: I've been trying to increase my iman and not allow for my iman to become affected by the stress from finals. With that said, I'm trying to "soften" my heart and I was thinking of what I can do. I was taking minor breaks from studying to listen to short lectures then BANG! I came across this one lecture from Sheikh Salih Al Maghamsi on how to soften our hearts with the Qur'an. I like to envision my heart swims in the vastness of the miracle of the Qur'an like a little tadpole. Sounds funny but yeah we're not that great! We like to think so. We would like to think that when we die everyone will cry and we will be missed on earth, how long will it be until your're forgotten and become maggot food?

My point is; one of the many miracles of the Qur'an is that its a medicine for our hearts and our Souls! Just as we need food for our bodies our souls need the Qur'an.  We will not be able to comprehend it until we humble ourselves and our hearts are sincere (we have ikhlas). It is then that we can receive that medicine (to soften our hearts). So open your hearts and enjoy this amazing recitation ( from Saad Nomani [33:63-73] ). May Allah protect our hearts from becoming sealed and from arrogance Ameen!
  • [39:23] "Allah has sent down the best statement, a Book (this Quran), its parts resembling each other in goodness and truth, oft-repeated. The skins of those who fear their Lord shiver from it (when they recite it or hear it). Then their skin and their heart soften to the remembrance of Allah. That is the guidance of Allah. He Guides therewith whom He pleases and whomever Allah sends astray, for him there is no guide."
  • [5:83] "And when they hear what has been revealed to the Messenger, you see their eyes overflowing with tears because of what they have recognized of the truth. They say, "Our Lord, we have believed, so register us among the witnesses."
  • [8:2] "Surely the believers are only the ones who, when Allah is mentioned, their hearts tremble and when His ayat (Signs or verses) are recited to them, they increase them in belief, and in their Lord they put their trust"

I GOT to eat!! Priorities!

I just saw this video (below), simple but powerful reminder.  The speaker, Wisam Sharieff said something that really struck at me “If we say we believe in Allah we should act like we believe in Allah” what a loaded phrase! Allahu Akbar!

We say we believe and are the most articulate on testifying our faith but we don’t act like we do. We do and say things as if Allah is not going to be aware or as if our bodies won’t be witnesses against us. Do we not believe that Allah is aware? Do we not believe in the Day of Judgment; do we not believe that our bodies will speak against us? Are we on the verge of Kufr (disbelief)?!!!!

Its finals for me and usually during finals stress levels soar and its difficult for me to do my sunnah prayers. Not entirely sure why it’s difficult. I’m sure it’s my nafs and shaytan trying to deviate me but when I am stressed out, I find it hard to relax and concentrate to have khushoo during salah (tranquility-one of the pillars of prayer). Interestingly, I find it difficult to even take the time to eat or make something to eat but I resort to making time because I “NEED” to eat. Subhana’Allah  I’m such a hypocrite! Our purpose of life is to worship and to please Allah. Eating is not even our purpose and we prioritize it! This can be applied to anything else, if we choose to do something rather than Salah or it diverges us away from the worship of Allah then we have indicated that we don’t really believe in Allah or love Allah. Have we just committed shirk by placing something else before Allah?!! How can we not want to get closer to Allah- the Lord of the Worlds! Are we insane?!

May Allah guide us all and may we be from his sincere believers! Ameen!
  • Hadith Qudsi:On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: Allah (mighty and sublime be He) said:
“… My servant draws not near to Me with anything more loved by Me than the religious duties I have enjoined upon him, and My servant continues to draw near to Me with supererogatory works so that I shall love him…” Al-Bukhari.
  • [4:142]Indeed, the hypocrites [think to] deceive Allah , but He is deceiving them. And when they stand for prayer, they stand lazily, showing [themselves to] the people and not remembering Allah except a little”
  • [5:35] “O you who have believed, fear Allah and seek the means [of nearness] to Him and strive in His cause that you may succeed.
  • [5:83] “And when they hear what has been revealed to the Messenger, you see their eyes overflowing with tears because of what they have recognized of the truth. They say, "Our Lord, we have believed, so register us among the witnesses.
  • [40:59] “Indeed, the Hour is coming - no doubt about it - but most of the people do not believe.
  • [24:24]  “On a Day when their tongues, their hands and their feet will bear witness against them as to what they used to do.
